Door Security

Door Security in Harrow

Want to make your doors and windows harder to break into without replacing everything? That’s what door security is really about: the right bolts, chains and reinforcements, fitted properly, so an easy target becomes too much hassle. There’s a lot of sensible, affordable kit I can add across Harrow and the surrounding areas, and I’ll only recommend what actually makes a difference. Labour from £89, no call-out fee.

The best security is layered: a good lock, a reinforced frame, and the little extras that turn an easy target into too much hassle. I’ll look at how your doors and windows would actually be attacked and add only what helps.

What I can add

  • Hinge bolts and London / Birmingham bars to reinforce frames
  • Rack bolts and locks for windows
  • Letterbox guards against “fishing”
  • Sash jammers on uPVC doors and windows

Door chains and door limiters

A door chain, or a modern limiter, lets you open the door a couple of inches to see and speak to someone without letting them in. Simple, cheap, and worth its weight the first time a stranger turns up on the doorstep. I fit sturdy ones screwed properly into the frame, not the flimsy sort that pull away with a shove.

Security bolts: rack bolts and barrel bolts

Rack bolts sink into the frame at the top and bottom of a door and lock with a small splined key, brilliant for a back door, French doors, or the second door you rarely use. Barrel bolts do a similar job on the surface. A pair turns a weak point into a solid one for very little money.

Sash jammers

Sash jammers are small, tough stops that block a uPVC door or window from being levered or forced, even if the lock itself is attacked. I fit a lot of these on ground-floor windows and vulnerable doors. Cheap, discreet, and a genuine deterrent.

Door viewers (spyholes)

A wide-angle door viewer lets you see exactly who’s at the door before you open up. If yours has gone cloudy or the door hasn’t got one, it’s a five-minute fix that makes a real difference, especially if you live alone or you’re sorting security for elderly parents.

Mechanical security: honest advice

I do mechanical security: locks, bolts and physical reinforcement. I don’t fit alarms, CCTV or smart cameras; if that’s what you’re after I’ll point you elsewhere. What I do is make the actual doors and windows harder to force, and I won’t try to sell you a shopful of hardware you don’t need. (Smart and keypad locks are a separate service. See smart & digital locks.)
