Locksmith Prices in Harrow

Locksmith Prices in Harrow

Short answer: My locksmith prices in Harrow start at £89 labour during standard hours, with no VAT and no call-out fee. You pay for the finished job, at a fixed price I agree with you before I start — never a penny more. Parts are on top, and I’ll always show you the options and what each one costs before you decide.

I’m Andrew, an independent locksmith based in Harrow. I’ve written this page for one reason: locksmith pricing in this country is a mess, and most people only find that out after they’ve been stung. There’s no government regulation for locksmiths in the UK — no set prices, no licensing, and nowhere to complain if you’re overcharged. So here are my real rates, in plain English, with nothing hidden.

How much does a locksmith cost?

Here’s exactly what I charge for labour — my time and my skill:

When Labour rate
Standard hours (7am–6pm) £89
Evenings (6pm–10pm) £99
Nights (10pm–7am) £120
Weekends & Bank Holidays from £99

I’ll add a bit extra if more than one door needs attention, for a fresh mortice lock installation, or if I can see the job will take more than an hour — but you’ll know that up front, in your quote, before I lift a tool.

No VAT, no call-out fee, and no “the price went up when I got here.” That’s the whole point of honest pricing.

What about parts?

This is where honest pricing gets harder to pin down, and where I’ll be straight with you: I can’t put a single price on parts, because there are hundreds of different locks on the market and the prices vary wildly from one to the next.

A basic replacement cylinder is worlds apart from a British Standard anti-snap one. A multipoint gearbox for a uPVC door can cost more than a simple mortice lock. Cylinders, handles, multipoint strips, gearboxes — every job needs something different, and the quality range is huge.

So here’s how I handle it. When I see the job, I give you a range of options and tell you exactly what each one costs — the budget fix, the middle option, and the proper long-term job. You choose. I don’t decide your budget for you, and I don’t quietly fit the most expensive part in my van to bump up the bill.

Think of it like tyres. Nobody can honestly tell you “a tyre costs £X” without knowing your car. Same with locks — anyone quoting parts down the phone without seeing your door is either guessing or setting you up.

My pricing promise

Four rules I never break:

  1. I charge for the completed job only.
  2. I only start once you’ve agreed my quote.
  3. No hidden costs — I will never add anything after the quote is confirmed.
  4. I never charge for giving a quote or visiting your property.

If a locksmith won’t put those four things in writing before they start, ask yourself why.

Why the “£39 locksmith” isn’t really £39

You’ve seen the ads — “lock change from £39.” Here’s the uncomfortable truth: that £39 is bait.

The people running those ads usually aren’t locksmiths, they’re lock sellers. £39 barely covers turning up. The real money is made after that — selling you locks, handles and parts you may not even need. I’ve heard of a £30 lock going in at £355, and ordinary screws sold as “special security screws.” Their skill isn’t opening your lock; it’s growing your invoice.

I work the other way round. I sell skill and time, not panic and parts. Nine times out of ten I can open your lock without destroying it — which means no unnecessary new lock to buy in the first place.

Locksmith prices in Harrow — FAQs

How much does a locksmith cost in Harrow?

My labour starts at £89 during standard hours (7am–6pm), £99 in the evening (6pm–10pm), and £120 overnight (10pm–7am). Parts are extra and depend on the lock. You’ll always get a fixed quote before I start — with no call-out fee and no VAT.

Do you charge a call-out fee?

No. I never charge a call-out fee, and I never charge for visiting your property or giving you a quote.

Do you charge VAT?

No. The price I quote is the price you pay.

Why are some locksmiths so much cheaper?

Adverts like “£39 lock change” are bait. Those companies make their money selling you unnecessary parts once they’ve arrived. A fair, fixed quote from an independent locksmith almost always works out cheaper in the end — and honest.

Can you give me a price over the phone?

For labour, yes — my rates are on this page. For parts, I need to see the lock first, because prices vary hugely between lock types. The next best thing is to send me a photo or short video of the lock or the situation — that often lets me give you a firm, final quote before I even arrive. Either way, I’ll always show you the options and costs before doing anything.

When do you agree the price?

Before I start. I quote the full job, you agree it, then I begin. Nothing gets added afterwards.
